Will a website actually bring me more customers, or is it just for show?
What a website can and cannot do for a shop in Delhi NCR, without a promised lift in customers.
A website that does not open brings no customers. A site that opens can be used. The rest is your reviews, your hours, and whether anyone answers.
I cannot tell you it will bring more customers, and I will not give you a lift.
Just for show is a page that looks finished on a laptop and still loads after the person has gone. That is not a quieter version of a working site. It is a different job.
A site that does not open brings none
People leave after three seconds. The slow set I measured: 8.8s to open, 2.4 MB, 54 on PageSpeed mobile. The sample I shipped: 1.7s, 89 KB, Lighthouse 100.
Someone looking for a gym in Saket, or a salon in Greater Kailash, on a mid range Android over 4G, will not wait for 2.4 MB of theme. They tap the next result, or they open Instagram, or they walk into the shop that picked up. A page that arrives at 8.8s did not fail to convert. It failed to appear.
How many more enquiries after a website is the page that refuses a count for the gap. Visitors but no enquiries is the week where the page was seen and nobody wrote. Ads or fix the website first is what happens when you pay for clicks onto the slow one.
What a working site can do
A working site says what you do, on a phone, before they leave. Timings. Fees. Whether you take walk ins. A way to book or write that is not another guess.
For a gym, that is the quarterly fee and a trial button, not a Facebook page that is still spinning. For a salon, that is the price of a colour and a Saturday slot, not an Instagram lookbook with no hours. For a dental clinic, that is services and a map that matches the door. For a restaurant, that is today’s hours and the menu you are actually running. For a coaching centre, that is the batch and the fee, not a brochure photo.
A true page and a true listing can be opened from search. Google says there is no way to pay for a better local rank. It cannot invent reviews. It cannot pick up while you are mid colour or on the floor.
The pricing page puts websites at Rs 30,000. Floor for a page that opens on a phone, not a monthly, not a customer count. Usually under two weeks for a site. After handover the domain, the host, and the files are already yours. You message one person.
When it is just for show
It is just for show when any of these are true.
- It takes a wait longer than they will sit on a mid range phone.
- The hours, the fee, or the menu are last year’s.
- The only action is a form nobody reads, or a phone number that rings out.
- You built it because a competitor had one, and you have not opened it on your own phone over mobile data.
A custom build is not always needed. A Wix or WordPress page that already passes the phone test can stay. I will say so.
A quiet shop with a wrong Google listing should fix the listing first. A busy shop that never answers WhatsApp will not be saved by a prettier hero. Those are honest downsides. I will not talk past them.
What I will not tell you
I will not tell you a site brings more customers. I will not tell you a more expensive site brings more than a cheaper one that opens. I will not tell you to run ads onto a page that is still loading.
Whether that visitor then books still sits with your area, your reviews, your hours, and whether a person writes back. I have not sat your week. A number I invented would only make a just-for-show page look like a plan.
What to do with that refusal
Open your own page on a mid range phone over mobile data. If it is still loading at three seconds, it is for show, even if it cost you last year. If you have no page, and people already ask for fees and a booking that is not a chat, a working site is a tool, not a promise.
Then get in touch. Write whether the page already opens on your own phone. I will name a figure from that, or I will leave the page alone.
