How do Delhi NCR customers actually find local businesses now?
Many still start on Maps for the pin and the hours. Some still ask a neighbour. Some now ask a chat. What Google and OpenAI publish, and what I will not invent as a city share.
Many still start on Maps, for the pin and today’s hours. Some still ask a neighbour, or tap a reel, or write on WhatsApp. Some now ask a chat. I will not give a restaurant in Sector 29 or a gym in Dwarka a city percentage for any of those paths. I have not surveyed Delhi NCR.
Do small businesses in Delhi need a website in 2026 is the spend question. What a Google Business Profile is is the listing. Website or Instagram and Google is the channel split.
What I can cite, without a street poll
Google’s local ranking page describes the pack through relevance, distance and prominence, notes that complete accurate information makes a profile more likely to show, and is explicit that local place is not a paid request. The add or claim page says you can add or claim a profile at no charge.
That is the pin, the hours, the number. Plenty of diners and trials never open a page at all. I will not turn “plenty” into a percent. Ask the last twenty tables or trials where they found you. Write Maps, Instagram, a friend, a chat, a website. That tally is the only local study that matters.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT search help lists several ranking factors and refuses a guaranteed first citation. Allow OAI-Searchbot if you want to be included. I will not tell you ChatGPT is how Noida now finds a gym.
Google’s AI features note says ordinary SEO still applies. A page that never opens cannot be an answer. People leave after three seconds.
Last twenty tables on a Sector 29 Saturday
I sat with a restaurant off the Sector 29 inner road while they asked diners one question at the door. Maps. A reel. A neighbour. A chat. The marks were messy. Some people named two paths. That is fine. Write both. Do not clean the card so it matches a slogan.
A gym in Dwarka can run the same twenty on trial day. If most marks say Maps, the listing is the week. If most marks say Instagram and then “what is the quarterly fee”, a page that opens is the next sentence. Floor Rs 30,000 on pricing. Usually under two weeks for a site. I will not invent which bucket wins across Noida and Gurgaon. Your twenty is the brief.
If a chat named a competitor because your URL was a spinner, weigh the page. Nine clinic pages I weighed landed at 8.8s, 2.4 MB, and PageSpeed 54 as the middle of that pile. Weigh yours. Do not assume you are in that set.
What this means for a shop this week
Fix the listing first when it is wrong. Hours, the number that rings, the pin on the right floor. One profile, the name on the signage.
Then look at the tally.
- Maps and the neighbour, and they only needed hours. Keep the listing true. Skip a page this quarter if that is the whole week.
- Instagram, and they wanted a quarterly fee you will not type again. A page that opens is the next sentence.
- A chat named a competitor because your URL was a spinner. Weigh the live URL on a phone. Fix the wait before you buy another channel.
I will not tell you Instagram replaced Maps. I will not tell you 2026 replaced both. Your tally will argue with any slogan.
What I will not tell you
I will not tell you a keyword package buys the pack. Google already said you cannot pay for that rank.
I will not tell you a reel is enough for a menu. Some diners still want tonight’s dishes without a DM.
I will not invent how many people in Gurgaon ask a chat before they leave the house.
Honest downsides of chasing every new path
You will spend on a page, a reel, and a bot, and still lose the evening if Sunday on Maps is last year.
You will also miss the path you refused to count. If the last twenty mostly said “Google”, and you only post reels, the hole is the listing, not the grid.
Calls land, six days each week.
What to do with the last twenty answers
Put them in four buckets. Maps. Instagram. Friend. Other.
Bring the four buckets. I will say the listing is the job, the page is the job at the published floor, or the week you counted already has a path and a new URL would only decorate it.
