Freelancer vs agency vs website builder, which is right for a small business?

How to pick between a person, an agency, and a builder when you run one shop in Delhi NCR.

Pick the person you can still call in six months, not the deck that looks busiest this week. A freelancer, an agency and a builder fail in different ways, and I am one person in New Delhi, which is a fact and a limit.

A salon in Greater Kailash and a restaurant in Khan Market both need a page that states the hours and a way to book. They do not need a team that only exists in the proposal. Who you call when Saturday’s hours are wrong is the real choice.

Who you call later

A freelancer is a person. You know the name. You also know that person can get ill, take another job, or vanish after handover. The upside is a short line. The downside is one throat to choke, including mine.

An agency is a room. Someone sells, someone designs, someone builds, someone you have never met handles the ticket. That can be right for a chain with six outlets and a legal team. For one shop it often means you explain the Holi hours three times and still get last year’s menu on the page.

A builder is a product. There is no person to call in the same way. There is help text, a chat, and a plan you pay to stay inside. Fine if you will edit the page yourself. Poor if you wanted a human who already knows the chair times.

NexBuilt is one person in New Delhi, not an agency. The websites page is the job I take: a working site, domain and hosting in your name, usually under two weeks for a site. One person can only take so much. If your week needs a crew, I will say so and I will not pretend I am a studio. Who builds websites for small businesses in Delhi is the longer map of that market. I will not invent typical freelancer or agency rates. I have not audited every quote in the city.

Agencies and decks

Agencies send decks because a deck makes a bundle look tidy. Voice, chat, ads, a refresh, a retainer. A restaurant that needed the real menu online did not ask for a brand film. A salon that needed WhatsApp to stop double booking did not ask for twelve slides.

I will not pad the first meeting with extra products. We ship the hole that is loudest, then talk about the next. If that sounds small, it is meant to. Small is how one person stays honest.

A deck also hides the phone test. The mockup is on wifi. The patient is on 4G in Green Park. Typical clinic sites take a wait longer than they will sit to open. People leave after three seconds. If the agency will not open the finished page on a mid range Android in front of you, the deck already did its job and the site has not.

How to choose a website developer is the checklist version of this. Ask who edits the hours. Ask whose name is on the hosting. Ask what happens when they are busy. If the answer is a queue, you know the week you will have.

Builder lock-in

A website builder is cheaper on day one. You can publish something the same week. I will not invent Wix or WordPress prices, and I will not tell you their plans. Wix, WordPress, or a custom site is the product comparison. This page is the people comparison.

Lock-in is the part builders skip in the demo. Your text, your photos, your hours live in their account. Leaving means rebuilding, or paying someone to pull the pieces out. That can still be the right trade if you needed a page on Monday and you will accept a move later.

On my builds the domain, the hosting and the code stay in your name. Small edits later are part of keeping it running. You call a person, not a ticket queue. That person is me, which means if I am full, I am full. I will say that before I take the job.

What the number is, and is not

NexBuilt websites start at Rs 30,000. That is a floor on the pricing page for a fast, mobile first site, not a theme that still loads after the guest has gone. I will not put a freelancer average or an agency average next to it. A made up average only makes a bad quote look normal.

If the page you already run already passes the phone test, none of the three hiring shapes is the hole. I will tell you that on the call.

What to do with the choice

Write down who you will message when the Sunday hours are wrong. If you cannot name a person, you are buying a queue or a help centre. Then write the Thursday night job in one line. If that list is short, a builder or a single freelancer can hold it. If that list is a chain, you want a room, and I am not that room.

Then get in touch. Write down who you will message when Sunday hours are wrong, then call. I will take it, or I will say I cannot and stop bothering you.

The ones people actually ask.

Who should I be able to call later?

The same person who took the job, or a named person at the shop that did. If you only have a ticket queue, you will feel it the first time the hours are wrong.

Why do agencies send a deck?

Because a deck is how a room of people sell a bundle. A salon or a restaurant in Delhi NCR usually needs a page that opens, not a twelve slide story.

What is the lock-in on a website builder?

You are inside their account until you leave. The page can be fine. Moving it later is a second job. Ask that before you publish.
