Website cost, one time fee or monthly maintenance, which is better?

The starting prices are for the build. Hosting sits in your name. How to choose between a one-off invoice and a monthly that never names the files.

The starting prices are for the build. A monthly that never names the domain login is rent, and a one-off invoice that leaves the files in someone else’s account is the same rent with a different label.

I will not tell you one shape always wins. I will tell you what has to stay in your name, and how to spot a plan that only looks cheaper because you cannot leave.

What the one-off actually covers

Websites start at Rs 30,000 on the pricing page. Floor for a fast, mobile first site, not a subscription, not a customer count. Usually under two weeks for a site. When I hand the job over, the registrar, the host login, and the files already sit under your email.

A dental clinic in Green Park that needs services and a map, and a restaurant in Khan Market that needs today’s hours and the menu you are actually running, both pay for that build once. Later hour or fee tweaks sit inside the same running job, not inside a silent rent. That is already how the work is sold. It is not a silent monthly I hid in the floor.

How much a website costs in Delhi is the floor in rupees. Hidden costs of a business website is the bills around that floor. Do I lose control if someone else builds it is the login question.

A Karol Bagh care plan versus a Lajpat Nagar registrar

A salon on the Ajmal Khan stretch once showed me a “care” invoice. The theme login was a studio Gmail. Sunday hours sat in a ticket. They could not export the files. The monthly looked smaller than Rs 30,000 until I asked what happens if they stop paying. The page would vanish. That is rent.

A clinic off Lajpat Nagar Central Market paid a one-off last year to someone else. The registrar still opened on the doctor’s personal mail. The host bill arrived on their card. They could change Saturday hours without waiting. The page was slow. Ownership was not the hole. Speed was. A new monthly would not have fixed that wait.

I will not tell you the salon should have bought my one-off, or that the clinic should skip maintenance. I will tell you to read the names on the accounts before you pick a shape.

When a monthly can still be honest

Some shops want a named person for Sunday hours. A monthly that says “hosting in your account, edits by message, you can leave with the files” is a maintenance deal. Ask for that sentence in writing.

A monthly that says “we host it, we own the theme, cancel and the page dies” is not maintenance. It is a lease. A salon that changes colour prices every month will feel that lease the first time they want to walk.

I will not invent a typical Delhi monthly. I have not audited every studio’s plan. I will not invent what your host charges either. That bill is theirs, in your name, and I name it before I start.

If you already like a person who answers on WhatsApp and you already hold the logins, paying them each month can be calmer than hunting a new freelancer every Holi. Calm is not the same as cheap. Read the exit line first.

How to choose without a pitch

Write two lines.

  • If I stop paying this person tomorrow, can I still change Saturday hours?
  • If I stop paying the host, does the page vanish, and is that host in my name?

If the first answer is no, you are buying a lock. If the second host is theirs, you are buying a lock that looks like a bargain.

A custom build is not always needed. If the page you already run already opens and books on a phone, neither a new one-off nor a new monthly is the hole. I will tell you that on the call.

Bring the live URL on mobile data. If the first screen still hides the fee, the invoice shape is the wrong argument. Fix the wait and the write. Then talk about who invoices you.

Downsides of each shape

A one-off has a downside. You still pay the host. You still have to write when the hours change. A page with last year’s Holi hours is worse than no page.

A monthly has a downside. The invoice can grow while the page stays slow. People leave after three seconds. A plan that never runs the phone test is paying for comfort, not for a page a stranger can use.

One person works Monday to Saturday.

What to bring to the choice

Bring the plan they sent, or the invoice you already pay. Bring the URL. Open it on your phone over mobile data before you write.

Then get in touch. I will say stay on the monthly you have, pay a build once, or do neither, from those two lines, not from a package that always prefers the shape I sell.

The ones people actually ask.

Are the starting prices a monthly?

No. The starting prices are for the build. Hosting in your name has its own bill, named before work starts.

Is a monthly plan always a trap?

No. A monthly that names the host, the files, and what a small edit costs can be sane. A monthly that hides the login is rent.

What should I ask before I pick either?

Whose name is on the domain and the host, and what happens to the files if the monthly stops.
